HeatSmart Program


Groton Utilities customers (homeowner or renter) can save hundreds of dollars by taking advantage of energy service visits and incentives through HeatSmart Groton - an initiative designed to help residents cut their energy costs while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The City of Groton and Groton Utilities has partnered with local nonprofit, PACE (Peoples Action of Clean Energy) and Lantern Energy to provide this program.

HeatSmart Groton makes it easy for you to increase the energy efficiency of your home through the Groton Utilities home energy service. There is no cost for the visit, which typically includes a home energy assessment, weather stripping, on-site air sealing, LED replacement bulbs and a written report that gives you a road map to home weatherization like insulation, water heaters, windows, and energy-efficient appliances. Although there is no obligation for participants to do deeper weatherization, Groton Utilities provides excellent residential rebates, including up to $2.50/sq. ft. for attic insulation and up to $2,500 for heat pump hot water heaters.

Additionally, the HeatSmart Groton campaign helps familiarize people with heat pump technology - highly efficient systems that use significantly less energy to heat and cool homes than traditional combustion methods. The benefit to the resident is a comfortable, more energy-efficient home that -emits fewer greenhouse gases into the environment. Groton Utilities is currently offering a heat pump incentive of up to $5,000 per compressor, which is one of the best rebates in the state.
