Commercial Lighting Program

Groton Utilities lighting efficiency program provides cash incentives for new fixture installation or retrofits of old lighting fixtures to energy efficient systems. Groton Utilities lighting efficiency program also provides rebates for installation of lighting occupancy controls and daylight harvesting and dimming controls.

Two types of qualified lighting projects:

  1. New Construction and Major Renovation
    • Groton Utilities provides fixed per-unit rebates on eligible lighting components.
  2. Existing Lighting System Retrofits
    • Groton Utilities provides rebates based on a fixed cents per kilo-watt hour saved.

Obtaining these cash incentives is easy and simple with Groton Utilities simple to follow rebate application forms. For a simple "how-to obtain" available Commercial lighting rebates follow the steps as outlined in the "Program Process" below.

Eligibility Requirements

All Commercial and Industrial electric customers of Groton Utilities and Bozrah Light and Power who contribute to the Energy Efficiency Fund. Rebate not to exceed 40% or 30 cents per annual KWH saved. Maximum annual rebate not to exceed
$100,000. All rebates are granted at the sole discretion of Groton Utilities and are subject to change at any time.

Program Process

Due to possible funding constraints, all rebate applications must be pre-approved before purchasing any equipment.

New Construction and Major Renovation

  1. Review eligibility requirements to ensure that all requirements can be met.
  2. Customer purchases qualifying lighting equipment. Qualifying equipment is installed.
  3. Customer completes the Rebate Application Form, includes proof of purchase and sends to Groton Utilities for approval.
  4. Rebate check is mailed to customer.

Existing Lighting System Retrofits

  1. Review eligibility requirements to ensure that all requirements can be met.
  2. Customer or Customer's contractor performs lighting audit and inputs information into Groton Utilities lighting energy saving software spreadsheet.
  3. Customer or Customer's contractor sends PRELIMINARY energy savings spreadsheet to Groton utilities for review and pre-approval of rebate.
  4. Groton Utilities performs a pre-inspection (at its discretion).
  5. Customer or Customer's contractor purchases lighting retrofit equipment and installs equipment at Customer's facility.
  6. Customer or Customer's contractor sends FINAL energy savings spreadsheet to Groton utilities for review and approval of rebate.
  7. Groton Utilities performs a post-inspection.
  8. Rebate is approved and rebate check is sent to Customer or Customer's contractor (if designated).
