Utilities’ Worker Rescues an Eagle in Distress

GROTON - Everybody believes that the three Rs stand for reading, ‘riting and ‘rithmetic. Imagine being wrong all those years. If the truth be known, the three Rs stand for rehab, release and reunion.

That’s definitely the reality if you were the eagle found stuck in a culvert by Groton Utilities employee Tom Simons in mid-April

Reduced Purchased Power Adjustment and Transmission Adjustment Charges Mean Lower Bills

Your electric bill will be lower due to a decrease in both the Purchased Power Adjustment (PPA) and the Transmission Charge Adjustment (TCA) charges. This means that an average residential customer who uses 700 kWh monthly will experience an overall reduction in the adjustment charges on their bill in the amount of $6.10.

The new PPA for most customers is .00758 cents per kilowatt-hour. This translates to slightly more than a half of a cent. The old charge was .00837 cents per kilowatt-hour, more than three-quarters of a cent.

The new TCA for most customers is .00276 cents per kilowatt-hour. This translates to slightly more than a quarter of a cent. The old charge was .00836 cents per kilowatt-hour, more than three-quarters of a cent.

If you have any questions on the PPA or the TCA charges, you can call one of our Customer Care Representatives at 860-446-4000.

Use Water Wisely

Groton Utilities Water Division reminds its water customers that using water wisely is always in season. This summer has been especially hot, and it is easy to lapse into wastefully water use practices and habits. While our water supply is more than adequate for this time of year, we do recommend that you exercise common sense when using water.

There are many ways to use water wisely. We would like to offer you some examples of wise water usage.

  • Turning off the tap while you brush your teeth can save 8 gallons per day.
  • Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes or lower the water settings for smaller loads.
  • Water your lawn or garden during the cool morning hours, as opposed to midday, to reduce evaporation.
  • Try not to overwater your landscaping. Learn plants’ water needs and water different types appropriately.
  • A full bathtub can require up to 70 gallons of water, while taking a 5-minute shower uses only 10 to 25 gallons.
