McGruff/Safety Programs
McGruff Truck Program
Groton Utilities is the first public utility in Connecticut
to take part in the McGruff Truck Program. The McGruff program
is an outstanding safety network for children and youth in our
community. We, at Groton Utilities, are proud to be partners in
this important program that provides help by assisting children
and others in emergencies.
One of the responsibilities that Groton Utilities has as a
McGruff Truck Program participant is to visit local schools and
present to the children information about McGruff and what they
should look for if they are in need of help. Through the use of
special handouts (McGruff materials for coloring, stickers,
etc.), we strengthen the message that when children see a Groton
Utilities vehicle, displaying the McGruff decal, they can be
sure that we are their friends and we will call for help if they
are in need.
The children learn from McGruff the important “Help” wave
that is used to flag a McGruff Truck if someone is in need of
help. During the presentations, it is emphasized to the children
about the importance of using the wave correctly. Groton
Utilities partners with both the City and Town Police
Departments to spread the McGruff message throughout our
community.
Groton
Utilities is active in our community in many ways. We conduct
educational sessions in our public schools, participate in
community activities like City Day, offer tours at our Water
Treatment Plant, celebrate Public Power Week and Earth Day, and
are active in the Groton Division of the
Association
of Chambers of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut of
Southeastern Connecticut.
