Conservation Tip
Splash When washing dishes by hand, don’t let the tap run freely to rinse—this wastes many gallons of clean water. Fill the second side of the sink with rinse water instead.

Celebrating Public Power

Public Power LogoGroton Utilities is proud to be a public power, municipal utilities that operates as a non-profit entity, returning a portion of its revenues to the City of Groton to help maintain a stable tax base and enhanced economic environment. Your community-owned electric utility was created to serve the public interest by providing lower-cost and dependable service.

This is a powerful public asset that you control. Your utilities can help influence the future.

Each October, the more than 2,000 municipally owned and operated electric utilities celebrate Public Power Week. This marks a yearly effort to spotlight the benefits of being a public power community which benefits from the low cost, reliable electric power.

We are Groton Utilities, at your service.

Chambers of Commerce

Groton Utilities has been a member of the Association of Chambers of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut since 1976. In an effort to promote greater involvement of local businesses in the City and Town activities, Groton Utilities and other leaders started a Groton Division of the Chamber three years ago.

This local branch of the Chamber has held events to increase awareness and enhance the image of the Groton community and its businesses. Groton Utilities has been a strong supporter of this local effort, including the sponsorship of Groton Division quarterly breakfast meetings.

The Groton Division sponsors an Economic Outlook breakfast during the first week of December each year. Business leaders assess the current local business outlook and project the prospects for the future. This has become one of the Groton Division's premier annual events, drawing crowds of at least 125 local businesspersons.

Public Education

Groton Utilities is active in our community in many ways. We conduct educational sessions in our public schools, participate in community activities like City Day, offer tours at our Water Treatment Plant, celebrate Public Power Week and are active in the Groton Division of the Association of Chambers of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut of Southeastern Connecticut.

We invite you to check out the menu of our community involvement and explore the possibilities.

Children in the classroomGroton Utilities believes that today’s children are tomorrow’s customers. Education is the key to making our children better citizens and, in our case, better, wiser customers. Our employees conduct classes on both electric and water topics throughout the school year. Our electric linemen conduct electric safety classes each spring in the elementary schools. Our Water Division personnel conduct classes on water quality throughout the year.

Groton Utilities has proudly become a partner in the national McGruff Safety Truck Program. Our involvement in the local schools through yearly presentations supports our commitment to the safety of our children. For further information about the McGruff Program, please click here.

In addition, Groton Utilities’ community activities such as City Day have a strong educational element, designed to further our children’s understanding of their community and electric and water subjects.
